Porthmadog again

Porthmadog 1 Bangor City 1
Welsh Premier League

Dewi and I travelled without any real hopes of obtaining a positive result. However we also reasoned that the blues would probably win. We’re out of the running in the league and don’t need to win as much as last week.

We arrived a little late to see that Bangor’s travelling numbers were depleated even further from last week. Maybe this was due to the after-effects of last night’s evening with John Toshack, maybe a protest or even just a build-up of frustration.

Bangor seemed more positive than last week and even managed to string a few passes together. Clayton had pushed up into midfield and maybe this was the deciding factor. A quick look around the ground revealed the presence of Porthmadog’s Scottish supporters. What is it about football fans and thier interest in obscure teams? Does this reveal any psychological insights into fans? Probably not replied Phil, Bangor’s answer to Freud. Bangor exerted pressure for some periods but could manage to get much on target. Ditto for Porthmadog.

Dewi was convinced that he had seen a candidate for our vacant manager’s job. He saw Steve Bleasdale in the stand and this sounded promising. Dewi, due to his extensive knowledge of the Football League, knew all about him.

The second half meant more of the same except for the fact that Port scored through ex-Bangor legend Les Davies. Bangor on the other hand still didn’t look like scoring. It was not until the blues brought on the returning Carl Jones that Bangor had the required urgency. More urgency didn’t mean more accuracy however and the fans’ frustrations were externalised with greater force.

In the last minute Bangor finally found the net as Jiws headed in Kevin Scott’s cross (another returnee). The Bangor fans went wild as a draw in these circumstances feels a little like a victory. It was all the sweeter thanks to the attitude of the Port fans for the third game running, apparently they still hate us and were not big anymore, we don’t know if they love Porthmadog unfortunately. A contented pair left Y Treath with a spring in our steps and a song in our hearts.
